Tony-winning playwright, director, and filmmaker James Lapine (musicals: Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George; HBO’s documentary Six by Sondheim; feature film Impromptu;) befriends poet Rose Styron, the widow of the great American novelist William Styron (Sophie’s Choice, The Confessions of Nat Turner). Rose shares the fascinating story of her complex life as a writer and human rights activist, life partner to William, a friend of the Kennedys and Clintons, and her life on Martha’s Vineyard.
James Lapine is a playwright, screenwriter, director, and author. His HBO documentary about his frequent collaborator Stephen Sondheim, Six by Sondheim, won a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination for his direction. He wrote the screenplay for the motion picture adaptation of their musical, Into the Woods, and has directed four feature films and fifteen Broadway shows. Lapine has been nominated for twelve Tony Awards, winning on three occasions.
Harvey Garnat is an entertainer and historian of the American Songbook. He just completed his 10th year of a popular series at 92nd Street Y, in New York, in which he hosted an array of major composers, authors, and media personalities. He has moderated many panels and has interviewed such people as Gary Grant, Bing Crosby, Neil Simon, Joseph Papp, and Hal Prince, among others. As an entertainer, he regularly appears at major venues on the East Coast.
