2022 Avon Scholarship Essay Contest

The Avon Theatre Film Center is proud to announce our 13th Annual Scholarship Awards Essay Contest.

Seniors in public and private high schools in Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY are invited to submit a 500 – 750 word essay on “WHY FILM MATTERS”. 

Students are asked to write about a film released in 2020, 2021 or 2022 that you believe has relevance. It may be a feature film, foreign or animated film or a documentary that you have seen online or in a theater. Please also include in your essay: 1) why you think this particular film matters, and 2) how film, in general, impacts our society.

The deadline to submit an essay is Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

A total of $8,500 in college scholarship prizes:

First Place $2,000, Second Place $1,500, Third Place $1,000
We will also award eight Honorable Mentions at $500/each. Each winner will receive a check made out to the college they will be attending in the Fall of 2022.

The Avon Theatre Film Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the Eleventh Annual Avon Scholarship Essay Contest, “Why Film Matters”. The contest was open to high school seniors in both public and private schools throughout Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Prizes totaling $9,000 were awarded in August to eleven talented high school seniors. The Avon congratulates them on their poignant essays and wishes them much success.
