Connecticut’s Gold Coast: A screening of “The Houses in the Park,” a Mini-Documentary by Regina Pitaro featuring a slideshow and panel discussion on the Gold Coast history of Darien, Stamford, and Greenwich.

This is a free event for our Avon Theatre Carte Blanche Members, who are also invited to a special reception at 6:00pm. The screening of “The Houses in the Park” follows at 7:30pm.

Following the screening, a panel discussion and Q&A, moderated by Jessica Guff and featuring filmmaker Regina Pitaro, Debra Mecky, Executive Director and CEO of the Greenwich Historical Society, along with Wes Haynes, Historic Preservation Consultant — will broaden the conversation to examine the greater history and significance of the Gold Coast shoreline, including Darien, Stamford, and Greenwich.

Serving as a catalyst for exploring this broader story, Regina Pitaro’s mini-documentary, “The Houses in the Park,” delves into the history of Field Point Park in Greenwich. Originally the site of a horse trotting track and later a popular venue for bicycle meets, Field Point Park was transformed in the early 1900s when twelve grand summer “cottages” were built by wealthy New Yorkers seeking an elegant retreat by the sea. Business titans who had amassed fortunes in railroads, steel, finance, and other industries were drawn to the park-like setting and the opportunities for yachting, horseback riding, and leisure — hallmarks of the lifestyle that came to define the Gold Coast.
